An elephant that was clearly thirsty decided it needed a new source of water, and found it in a private infinity pool. Lucky onlookers were amazed as they watched the large mammal gulp down water from the pool. It was quite a sight to see an elephant drinking from a swimming pool.

While wandering with a tiny group of fellow elephants, a parched baby elephant stumbled upon a revitalizing drink at Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate, located in a “suburb” within the South African wilderness. The adorable little creature could be seen taking sips of water from a nearby swimming pool.

During the dry season, when natural river flows were limited and water holes had dried up, elephants had to find alternative methods to quench their thirst. Fortunately, photographer Villiers Steyn, 33, stumbled upon an elephant taking a refreshing drink of water and captured several heartwarming photos.

According to Villiers, a resident of Hoedspruit, he was responsible for leading a photo tour for an Englishman. The client simply needed a guide for morning and afternoon sessions, but unfortunately, the morning drive was uneventful and they barely spotted any animals.

Upon returning to the campsite, we were greeted with news of elephants taking a dip in the nearby pools next to the dining area. Instead of seeking rest and relaxation, my companions and I decided to wait for their return. As expected, the magnificent creatures made their way back. I found myself lying on my stomach just a couple of meters away from a calf, who seemed entirely at ease.

Once, he didn’t even consume any liquids but instead, he just sucked and sprayed water at me in a playful manner. Waiting for this moment took a considerable amount of time as it continued all day long, and I required still water for my reflective photography which demanded patience. Presently, I’m struggling to maintain my camera at a low level, but the effort was worth it as the experience was truly extraordinary.
